HubSpot vs Salesforce Reporting — My Points

I have worked on both HubSpot and Salesforce, and handled many reporting-related problems — from building team performance dashboards to creating business insight reports. Both tools are powerful in their own ways, but they also have some key differences when it comes to reporting.
Here are some major points I have noticed:
To be honest, Salesforce’s row-level and summary-level formulas are like gems for me. You can do complex logic and calculations inside the report itself without creating new fields. This makes reports cleaner and faster to build. Also, in Salesforce, you can use the same report with different chart types on dashboards, which saves a lot of time.
On the other hand, HubSpot requires you to create a calculated field (property) to do similar work. However, HubSpot is planning to introduce formula fields in the report builder, which is currently in public beta. You also can’t use the same report with different charts on a dashboard — you need to save it as a new report each time.
But HubSpot still shines in many areas. It has some beautiful and very useful standard reports for Support, Sales, and Revenue teams. One of my favorite features in HubSpot is the pivot table option in custom reports — it’s simple but helps a lot in quick analysis. Another thing I really like is the frequency filter — it lets you switch between weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly views very quickly. The “Breakdown By” and “Compare” options also make data easy to understand and share.
However, when it comes to more detailed and advanced reporting, I would like HubSpot to add a few things:
-
“Group By” when exporting reports (so you maintain grouping in exports)
-
Row-level and summary-level formulas are built into the report builder without needing separate property creation
-
The ability to reuse the same report with different charts on dashboards
If HubSpot adds these features, its reporting would become even more powerful and flexible — making it closer to what Salesforce offers in that area.
